Tarn Pagott: the psyche under the mohawk

Somehow in this player's mind, Tarn Pagott is the quintessential ranger, explorer and archeologist. While this entails mostly scouting, treasure hunting, exploring, hunting and helping in the creation of settlements, under the mohawk this is the conjunction of many influences.

At heart are the stories of Allan Quatermain, Indiana Jones or Lara Croft for the exotic and mysterious past meets present contents ; my keen interest in paleoanthropology and prehistoric societies ; Jack London's novels such as White Fang or The Call of the Wild, Derib's Buddy Longway comics ; some teenage relent of mysticism and interest in Oriental philosophies and the idea of lost knowledges.

The SWG Grave Memorial storyline acted as a later catalyst to delve into the Pagott's family and cultural history. Although Tarn's character was established with the first day of logging in the MMO, the "scout" profession tree and the seemingly infinite wild expanses served as a medium to synthesize all these influences.

Tarn's family history is rooted in some obscure SW lore, the destruction of Kashi four thousand years prior to the creation of the Galactic Republic, "a thousand generations ago". The Tales of the Jedi Companion Sourcebook published by West End Games makes and odd reference to a Kashi-owned company four thousand years prior to the battle of Yavin, whose "official" status is contradicted by later sources. So the idea of surviving members of the destruction of Kashi being ancestors to Tarn is natural considering the character's drives.

Museum of Natural History (XVII)

New additions to the Museum of Natural History!

In the Fauna Room, two new displays from the ice planet of Hoth, a Tauntaun Eye and Unidentified bones. Those were collected in Wampa valley and in Echo Base. The tauntaun eye shows that these creatures are blue-eyed. Extensive analysis of the eye is being carried on. The current unidentified bones are being examined in order to determine the species, nevertheless, the size of the bones and their shape offer clues as to the animals. Further information will be given at a later time.

In the Resource Room, a Hoth Snow Machine is used to recreate an artificial snowfall in the room. This element contrasts with the large indoor fountain, in showing water in its various states, from liquid to crystal. The aquatic element of the resources can be examined more closely when looking at the various water containers and examine their qualities.

From Hoth

It starts in Dathomir, where expecting members of the Alliance and the Empire wait by their respective briefing instructors. It somehow looks like the prom ball, each group standing on one side of the room, waiting for the group to fill up (min. 4 to get in, but 8 is better) ; "LFG" is the chorus.

Then, comes the much awaited jump to Hoth, as our group went in on the first day, we pretty much had no clue about to do. Mission instructions appear on screen, jump into an ATST and protect 3 ATAT, get a Hoth exploration badge (yay), unable to protect the ATAT, proceed to the generators, enter the base. New mission updates, locate various items, fail, keep on moving through Echo Base. Get the Echo Base Location Badge (yay). Needless to say that we failed all missions, so 1 token (out of nine). Meager results, but it's the discovery, when you're guessing whether to turn left or right, it's pretty difficult to achieve much. Practice makes perfect.

There's still some time left on the counter, so go to Wampa valley. It's a nice place, desolate and cold. Here too, to make it short, unable to spawn the boss mob, so we'll skip that part, it'll be for another time. Here, it's more about collecting, Hoth Meteorite, Frozen Corpses, Malfunctionning Probe Droids, Slaying wampas and tauntauns. Perhaps there are more, who knows. At any rate, it'll be a place to return, the collection rewards are great for the Twin Mountain Base Museum of Natural History (hunting trophies, holograms, displays).

Beyond the collections, some of the junk loot was quite attractive too, icicles, skulls and bones, wampa liver, unknown bones, and so forth. Plenty of nice things. There must have been other good things, crystal fragments, Hoth cables and isomerase enzymes among them.

It was a good moment to explore and discover, thanks Iur, Sethhaca, Inuno, Romac, Karnage, Dzenkl and Soca ; it was also a moment to enjoy cross server cultural exchanges as the group was partly from Bria.

Happy Birthday (IV)

Announcement for Tarn's 60th month birthday, on December 17th. All are invited, main, alts, second account, trial account, whichever you like!!

Expect some story telling decorations in Twin Mountain Base, some story-telling NPC to hang around with and to shoot (not necessarily the same ones). Entertainers, silly contests such as swoop races and the like...

I'll try to get my hands on any kind of good props and activities, planning starts today and suggestions welcome.

I'll keep an update on the progress.

Lost Rebel Armor Collection

An odd collection to start for an Imperial, but hey, enrol and travel they used to say. There are a couple of nifty things about that collection, well not all nifty but they all abound in the fun facts list:
- Princess Leia on a small isolated camp in Dantooine ? Fact one, she's there.
- A Force Crystal guarded by a fallen padawan on Rori ? That's two.
- Crazed Geonosians next to the ruins of a Jedi Temple Ruin site on Yavin 4 ? That's three.
- A Rebel base shaped in the Alliance symbol ? That's four.

The rest was, in my humble opinion, less interesting. Thank the Empire for this enlighting tour.

Oh, the best news of course is that there was a badge given for the completion of that collection. And since yours truly had 124 badge, that became the 125th and the 126th was immediately awarded. The 126th being "Badge collector: you have collected 125 badges". Yeah, I'm a badge addict...

Kamurith Killer

Oh yeah, a great title...sort of. The reward for endlessly tracking kamurith from one end of Dathomir to the other. Well, at least, with the Ryll Wrecker (another great title...sort of), it's two steps completed in the Cold Blooded Killer Collection. Yes, that's correct, vesps and voritors are next on the menu. Likely vesps for the enjoyment of some Lok hunting, which remains the favorite planet. Should Krayts be mentioned at this point ? Well, they could, but really, it's more a group activity than a solo one for a spy.

Eweev's tales from Scylla (5)

Aryillia looked into her reflection in the mirror. Taking a tube of lipstick, she touched it to her lips, applying the color to her lips.

A short rap sounded through the room.

Standing up, she adjusted the green gown she wore before gliding over to the door. Pressing the button, she waited until it lid open revealing a young blond man, clutching a cap in his hand, wringing it nervously.

“Sorry to disturb you, Mistress Naefai,” he said, taking a moment to look into her eyes before diverting his gaze again. “There’s a man insisting on seeing you.”

Aryillia pursed her lips together. “Tell him I’m getting ready for a show.”

He nodded, his hands working the material of his hat. “He was told that,” he said. “He asked me to give you this, saying it was important he speak with you before the show.” He stopped worrying his hat, reaching into his pocket handing her a small envelope.

She took the envelope out of his hand, sliding her fingers along the seal. She unfolded the paper and read it.

Her eyes met the man’s. “Where is he?”

“Do you want me to bring him here, Mistress Naefai?”

She shook her head, placing the paper back inside of its envelope. “I need to see him and it would be faster if I went to him.”

He bowed his head, as he turned around, motioning for him to follow him.

Aryillia grabbed a cloak from the peg by the door, wrapping it around herself, pulling the hood up. She followed him down the busting hall. The back of the theater was a hectic place, especially during performance times. Everyone was rushing around changing costumes, rehearsing lines, putting on the last touches of make up.

He led her to the back door, opening it. She could see a lone figure waiting close by in the shadows. His head swiveled from side to side as he watched the area around him.

Aryillia could almost hear the rapid beating of his heart.

“Wait here.”

He glanced at the man, concern showing on his face. “Are you sure, Mistress?”

She gave him a slight nod, before stepping into the darkness, gliding over to the man.

He had stopped his constant inspection, seeing the cloaked woman gliding over to him. “Aryillia Naefai?” he whispered, his eyes darting behind her to the open door.

She pulled the hood of her cloak enough for him to see her face in the dim light before pulling it back into place, watching as he relaxed just a little.

“Please forgive me, Miss Naefai,” his voice was low. “I would not have disturbed you if it wasn’t important.”

“Get on with it” she said impatiently.

He nodded. “I heard you had contacts in the Rebellion.”

“I have little to do with Eweev Naefai” she stated coldly. She had been followed before by Imperial agents looking for her cousin.

“No, not her” he said, eyes wide with shock. “I had heard you sometimes deliver things to them.”

“And you have something of importance for them?”

He nodded, his hand reaching into his jacket pocket.

“I may be able to do that for you,” her eyes narrowed, “for a price.”

“Of course,” he stammered. “You would be taking a great risk to deliver this.” He withdrew his hand from his pocket handing her two chips.

Taking them she reached into her own pocket in the cloak, pulling out a datapad, inserting one of the chips inside. Her eyes widened, as she looked up at him.

“You must feel this is very valuable.”

He nodded. “Can you do it?”

“I’ll make sure it gets to the right person.” She lifted the right side of her skirt to reveal a small holster. She placed both disks into a small pouch, letting the skirt fall back to the ground. “I’ll leave after the performance tonight.”

She stepped closer to him, wrapping her arms around him, signaling him about the other man with her eyes. She felt his arms slip around her. Her lips touched his in a brief kiss.

“Stay like this for a few minutes,” she whispered her lips close to his.

He gave her an almost imperceptible nod as he tilted his head slightly, his arms around her, pulling her tight against his body.

She gave him a warning look.

A mischievous smile flickered across his lips. “All for show, Miss Naefai,” he whispered against her lips. He dropped his arms freeing her from his embrace.

He pinched her rear end, as she started to walk away.

Aryillia turned around, giggling, her face set in a scowl. She turned and headed back towards the doorway.

“Everything ok, Mistress Naefai?” the young man asked.

“Just an old friend,” she told him, giving him a soft smile.

He shrugged letting the door close shut behind him.

Homing Beacon

As far as gadgets exist this one is pretty neat, looks fun in the house and gets a good interaction with the landing officer when living in a remote planet such as Lok...The planet known for its numerous spaceports.

Landing in front of my house is something I had wanted to do for a long time, 'tis done. Checked.

I hope that with time going by, the ship's anim would be possible, but let's just enjoy the present moment and not raise hopes too wildly.

Museum of Natural History (XVI)

A new addition to the Museum, a large indoor fountain displayed in the Resource room (how fitting).

Beyond the welcome addition, it comes unfortunately at a cost -- in the particular case, a fruitful card exchange betweeen a loot TCG card, the fountain, a looted card from the Decrepit Droid Factory, a TCG Death Star Hologram.

It is somehow sad that interesting loot applicable in game is dependent on virtual purchasable cards. Display case, nice vehicles, decorative items (Dooku Bust, Fountain, Great Hyperspace War bas relief), glowing eyes, clothes, buff items (Gorax ear, Amulet) to name a few will make mouth watering additions to players such as I. It's to hope that among the virtual promo packs gratiously offered by SOE, drop loot cards .

Krayt Hunting

There comes a moment in all SWG players life that challenges need to come in large sizes, in this case, Krayts. Big, large and mean, spawning everywhere at once, the charming lizards offer a nice challenge to a small group. Thanks Eweev and Enkarn for this fun moment of droids and familiar running around and blazing their way ahead.

From Mustafar...

A good moment to spend with friends on the arid Mustafa plains, in the Decrepit Droid Factory and in the Kosayet miner village.

While the Decrepit Droid Factory was a walk to the park thanks to a great group, the destruction of the miners' village could not be prevented.

It nevertheless remains a great scenario that heralds the Tusken King instance - except that this one is closer to the seven samurai or the magnificent seven in spirit. In a short time, the Hoth instance will come out and be an opportunity to see if SOE pursues that spirit - perhaps with added complexity.

From Mustafar

What started as a shameful moment ("Hey, wanna join hk?", "sure" says I...travel, buff, enter, not flagged...), ended up as a great moment, spent with friends in various Mustafar locales.

First, to Malfosa for a short but intense, err, discussion with the creature, who, thanks to Kohaeg persuasive arguments, thought better to hand (I mean we gutted her) her "warmly poison gland".

Joined later by Quazare and a levelling Sethhacca, travel to the Kubaza Beetle Cave went smooth with great tanking and healing from party members. Next, to the Old Republic Research Facility and some running in the confusingly designed building (HK's right, deal with architects first).

This concluded a good run with an excellent spirit of cooperation and fun, and some real rewards: levelling for Sethhacca, two foraged treasure maps (gotta keep busy during downtime), and of course, two shiny new badges.
